Start/finish: Car park on B4521, near NP7 8AP

From the L of the car park (looking north) follow the Beacons Way north along the edge of fields and up through Caer Wood, keeping R to reach a path junction by a wall and clearing. Stay R on the Beacons Way up the ridge to reach the trig point and summit of Skirrid at 486 metres (1.2 miles/2km). Continue over the summit and down the steep hill on the other side to the path that runs around the foot of the mountain. Turn L here, following the trail as it curves around and heads up through the notch. Continue roughly south through woodland to the west of the ridge. Follow the path on sections of boardwalk around to the L back to the junction with the Beacons Way and the outbound path. Turn R and return to the start.
