Cross the A494 and join a track heading south past the outdoor education centre. Take the R fork past Coed y Fedw Wood and trend south to reach Maeshafan Road. Turn L onto the road and follow it for a short distance until you can turn R on a path heading south-west through the forest to a track. Follow this west past Pentre-cerrig-bach to the A494 in Llanferres. Cross the road and join the path opposite before turning L onto a bridleway heading south-west across fields to a path junction at SJ 173594 (3.8 miles/6.1km). Turn R and follow the path west, bearing R up to Foel Fenlli at 511 metres. Continue on the path north-west, crossing the road at Bwlch Penbarra and joining Offa’s Dyke Path, ascending to the trig point on Moel Famau at 555 metres (6.7 miles/10.7km). Continue north-east, leaving Offa’s Dyke Path and skirting the edge of the forest to a path junction at its corner. Turn R onto the bridleway heading east along the northern edge of the forest to a path junction at Ffrith. Turn R and follow this to the road. Turn L here, then at a junction cross over onto a footpath down to a bridge over the river. Turn R and follow the riverside path back to the start.
