Chirk Castle
Distance: 3.5 miles (5km)
Ascent: 247 metres
Start/finish: Chirk Castle, LL14 5AF
Take the path out of the back of the car park across fields to a road near Tyn-y-groes. Follow the road L to a track heading L on the Llwybr Ceiriog Trail. Stay on this trail around Warren Wood, curving L above the Afon Ceiriog and up a spur. Turn R to join Offa’s Dyke Path descending south of Gwyningar Wood to the B4500 at Castle Mill, where Offa’s Dyke Path crosses the road. Don’t join the road, instead turn L uphill to the Chirk Castle driveway. Turn R to visit the castle (NT members/paid entry) or go L along the drive and L back to the start.
For a longer run head north on the Offa’s Dyke Path to join our next route (158) on the Pontcysyllte aqueduct.
