Follow High Street north-east then turn L onto East Watergate Street and bear R out of Fortrose. Ascend to reach a R turn onto a footpath down Swallow Den (0.6 mile/1km). Turn R and follow this path down through woodland into Fairy Glen. Turn R again, following the stream and crossing the A832 before turning R onto Well Road. Turn L on Mill Road and R along the coastal Marine Terrace. Bear L onto a footpath along the coast out to Chanonry Point. Trace the headland around the point, looking out for dolphins, and then head back along the southern coast to the start.
