Turn R out of the car park onto the A351 north briefly then turn L onto the Purbeck Way heading west, go around a sharp R then L onto a bridleway. Stay on the Purbeck Way, turning R at the first junction and straight across at the next junction, trending L to join a road and the Hardy Way (2.4 miles/3.9km). Turn L onto the road and follow it south until you can turn L onto a footpath at SY 931822 straight onto Knowle Hill. Climb uphill then L up the ridge to the summit. Take the ridge path east then drop down to the southern edge of the hill just before the trig point. Run along the track east towards the castle and around the eastern end of the hill back to the Purbeck Way and the outbound route. Turn R and return to the start.
