The first half of this run, across the vast wilderness of Rannoch Moor, is one of the classic stages of the West Highland Way. From Victoria Bridge at the start, it follows the clear path of Telford’s Parliamentary Road NE through a sea of heather and bog, surrounded by towering mountains on either side. In fine weather, this is a place of wild and peaceful beauty, turning to an exposed and foreboding arena on the arrival of a storm. Underfoot conditions are generally easy and runnable. The second half of the run is the most dramatic section of the Way, as it climbs to the highest point on the route. The final long descent, with excellent views, to Kinlochleven is an enjoyable finish.
