This wonderful and varied run starts on
the atmospheric White Moor, dotted with remnants of military history. It follows the old Salt Way, passing medieval earthworks and a Bronze Age barrow before emerging onto spectacular heathland, ablaze with heather and gorse in summer. The route then follows the Beaulieu River at Longwater Lawn, a trickle during the summer months that becomes a gushing watercourse in winter. From Bolton’s Bench, follow tarmac road to cemetery, turning L and following wall to reach the edge of Mallard Wood. Cross open heathland to Beaulieu River. Follow E until bridge crossing, heading S to Matley Wood. On reaching road, bear right along track to return to Lyndhurst.
