From the National Trust Hunters Inn strike north on the path, taking the R higher path which climbs slowly through woodland to the highest point of the route above Highveer Point. Follow the path as it turns R and hugs the coast east past the Beacon, then reaches a road above Woody Bay (2.5 miles/4.1km). Turn L onto the road downhill until you can turn L onto the South West Coast path at SS 679487 (3 miles/4.9km). Take the coast path west below and in the opposite direction to the higher path you took on the outbound journey. It turns sharp L up the Heddon valley and back to the start.
